WHY IS THIS AN IMPORTANT ISSUE?
Since the beginning of time, women have been marginalized and have been seen as inferior within society. Their intelligence has never been fully utilized up until the 1800s'. And that was mostly just in the western parts of the World . If we begin to challenge gender norms and remove the barriers that keep millions of girls out of school, we can start to see great changes in societies and countries all around the World. IF WE BEGIN TO EDUCATE GIRLS:

Making education accessible for women and all people in general is something that most people would agree should be a top priority. But there are still people out there that simply do not see this issue as imperative. For example, in 2015, Michelle Obama created the "LET GIRLS LEARN" program which helped facilitate educational opportunities for adolescent girls in developing countries. Trump, however has called for a discontinuation of the program. Some say that parts of the program will continue, but what do these action say about the importance of the cause? Actions like these are very detrimental to the cause considering the amount of work the initiative has already accomplished in helping millions of girls Worldwide. It's also clear evidence of what some of our leaders consider top priorities and in this situation, it seems as though educating girls is no one of them.
Education is the key to unlocking a persons potential. Some of the greatest minds that have walked the Earth were able to do what they did because they were given an education. Women have fought for centuries to get the right to an education and the fact that girls all around the world still have no access to one is unacceptable. As a society, we need to bring more attention to this issue and use our privilege that we have here in America to help those around the World unlock their potential.
